Helen Phillips
The Biggest Loser Couples winner chats with JB about her new lease on life and what it's like to lose a whole person in weight.
JB- There's also got to be some big-time motivation to get through the challenges and competitions with them cheering you on. You went through this with your daughter. Is it easier to make working out a game and fun, I would imagine?
HP- The challenges are weekly challenges, but they're only one day. You need to work out six days a week, seven days a week, you know. The challenges were only one day and they were only a few hours long, except for marathon, of course. It makes it fun, yeah. Looking forward to the challenge and knowing there may be a prize or that you could possibly take first or second was fun. It broke things up, it broke the week up for you. It was like, gosh, you know, I look back at it now and I think I ran a marathon, I pulled a car on my back. I mean, how many times in your lifetime do you have that opportunity? That was the fun little things that were thrown in.

JB- Let's do some imagining here for a second: I weigh 300 pounds, I want to lose weight, but think I can't do it. What are you going to tell me?
HP- You know what, start believing in yourself and take that first step. You can do it. Never say that you cannot do anything. Always think positive. Go to the gym, or even go outside and walk around your block because that is your beginning, that is your start. That's the hardest part is to get started. But, once you get started, never give up on yourself. The first two weeks just keep giving it. Stay out of your comfort zone. The minute that you feel comfortable working out, it's not working. Get uncomfortable. Start to sweat, walk a little faster, because you know what, tomorrow when you get on that scale, you're gonna drop a pound. You may think like, oh, only one pound. That one pound is your beginning, that is your start, because that one pound it becomes two pounds, and the two pounds becomes five and the five pounds becomes 10. And, before you know it, you've lost 140 pounds. Look at me. Forty-eight years old and I've lost a person -- 140 pounds. I didn't believe in myself. Now, nothing can stop me -- nothing.
JB- I think the biggest reward is getting a new lease on life, a new look on life.
HP- And, a longer life. I look to the future now and think, you know, I'm making plans for the future with my family to do wonderful things -- go hiking, go kayaking -- and they're all health-related and I love that. I love that feeling.  I love being able to pay it forward to my family and friends and anybody out there that needs it. I want people to know that it's a possibility to change your life in the middle of it. Changing your life is going to make you a better person. It's going to make you a better mother, a better father, a better friend, sister, daughter -- it's going to help your relationship. It's going to make you a better stranger.
JB- Of course, there is one bonus to this. Naturally, I have to ask: what are you going to do with the prize money? How much was it again?
HP- Two-hundred-fifty-thousand dollars.
JB- What's your plan?
HP- I'm actually going to buy some new clothes. I can't wait to go really shopping and I want to spend money on my family. I want to buy my children new clothes. I want to go out to dinner with them. I want to take my husband… you know, we were married in Las Vegas and I would love to take my husband on a second honeymoon to Las Vegas, and just spend time with him and spend time with my family - enjoying the time that I have with them.
JB- Helen Phillips from The Biggest Loser Couples, thanks for joining us today and congratulations on everything.
HP- Thank you so much.
JB- Take care.
HP- You too. Bye, bye.
