JB- As the final episode approaches, are there any bits you want to get on the show before the curtain falls? Like, can you give us the inside scoop? What can we expect from Johnny Sanchez?
JS- The new episodes start February 28. We've got some guest stars coming on. You know, they wanted to come on before the end. Cheech and Chong are doing a sketch with Bobby Lee and we're going to have the Kardashians on, and Kathy Griffin's coming on. The series finale May 16, it's going to be a special surprise guest host for that one. We've got a lot of great sketches that are coming up in the next five weeks in a row on Saturday nights so we're back at the 11 o'clock time-slot.
JB- We will check it out. MADtv, Saturday nights on Fox. Johnny Sanchez from MADtv, thanks for joining us today.
JS- Thanks, buddy. I appreciate it. Thank you.
JB- All the best to you.
JS- Thank you.
Johnny Sanchez
As MADtv airs its final episodes, what can we expect on the late-night FOX show? Johnny tells JB.
JB- You mention the characters - and there's lots of different characters we see on MADtv - lots of imitation of real people as well. So what's been the most interesting character to play?
JS- I do this Mexican guy named Nacho, or Little Joker, and it's kind of the guys I grew up with that I took their personalities and what they were doing and it's probably the one I get the most recognized for. Which is interesting, because that kind of guy - like the little gang member, kind of guy - he's literally the kind of guys that picked on me in school. (laughing) So to do it now, [doing imitation] Hey, what's up… you know, that guy just really… to play that character now is really kind of surreal because I was always avoiding those guys when I was growing up.
JB- Of course, I mentioned the Rice and Beans Tour. How many arrests were there?
JS- (laughing) We were pretty fortunate, man. You know, that was a real, real interesting thing. We did that just a little bit prior to before we started shooting on the set. I hadn't even met anybody on the cast yet. I knew Bobby (Lee) through stand-up. Bobby and I had done stand-up together for about 12, 13 years. It was a lot of fun. It was an experience. I think it was just the element of he and I, we just stood out like sore thumbs where we were going in the Midwest and in the South. We really stood out. I get asked about that more than I do sometimes just about characters that I do. People always go, Rice and Beans, man. It would have been a nice series to continue every season.
