Jeremy Bradley- Neal E. Boyd, winner of last season's America's Got Talent is joining us on the line right now. Hi, Neal. How are you?
Neal E. Boyd- I'm doing great, JB. How are you?
JB- I'm good, thanks. So, I guess life is a little different now, isn't it? You look back at the past year and what are your thoughts?
NB- I tell you, you go from selling insurance in St. Louis, Mo. and today I'm looking at my album which has just come out -- My American Dream -- and I'm sitting here in New York City.
JB- Life certainly has changed. You've also done Vegas, you won a million bucks. Did you ever expect this when you auditioned for the show last year?
NB- You know, I didn't. I think I was just as intimidated as the other 200,000 people. You get into the show, into this environment and you're in this gigantic bubble and, you know, the pressure's on. It's on to prove you have the talent that it takes to win and I threw everything I had at that show and, you know, revealed myself pretty emotionally through the course of it. (laughing) I just tried to show people, A) how bad I wanted it; and B) listen to the gift that I've been blessed with.
JB- What is it about the competition - as you mentioned, you were quite emotional - and recently Susan Boyle on Britain's Got Talent. What is it you're going through emotionally when you're in this competition?
NB- You're exposed to millions of people. Everybody's got an opinion on your talent and you also have to go from having very few people who've ever heard you sing to having millions of fans. And pressure's on at that point to be consistent and stay consistent. That was the biggest pressure on the show: understanding that at any given moment you could end up going home. You'd almost feel like your dreams were dead. That was just a lot of stress and a lot of pressure. I could see where a lot of contestants kind of got nervous or couldn't really deal (with it) or handle it emotionally. It just comes with the territory.

JB- That's something that thousands of people are going to be going through with the auditions.
NB- (laughing) Yeah. It all starts over again.
JB- With the new season just starting, what should the contestants be doing… what advice would you give? Or, what would you change about your situation that you went through?
NB- I think the main thing… the advice I would give is you just got to believe in yourself and believe that you deserve to be there. There's a reason why you were chosen in the first place. There's a reason you didn't get buzzed off (by the judges). There's a reason why the audience cheers for you. Ultimately, it comes down to the fact that you are good… you're very good at what you do. I don't know that I would have changed a lot on my performances. To be honest with you, I really left it all out on the stage and that was my intention. I felt like I had something to prove after 32 years of struggling to prove to people around me, to America, that I had what it took to become a professional singer.

JB- Let's talk about the exposure and success you've had since the show. What are you up to now? What's going on?
NB- The main thing is we have a CD coming out -- My American Dream. Which is, you know, it's available everywhere: Amazon.com, all your major music stores. That's been the major focus over the past six months. Now we're going on a concert tour with Paul Potts who was the (season 1) winner of Britain's Got Talent. That's going to be a spectacular tour all over the country. People can find out all the details about that at nealeboyd.com. This is one of those things where you're really excited that you're going to get to sing in front of that many more people. The record stuff is fantastic. That was a great dream, but I really love to get in front of people in a live venue and this is my first concert tour so I'm happy, as you can imagine.

JB- You mention the album - can you describe the sound and feel of the album in one word?
NB- I would say pop classical. I grew up with a lot of different styles of music. I grew up on Motown and the Beatles and then fell in love with opera. I wanted to make sure this CD had a nice mix of both (so that) when you listened to it it wasn't primarily opera. It's bigger than most of the singers you've ever heard because I'm bigger than most of the singers you've ever heard! (laughing) But, vocally it's very powerful. I brought a lot of power to my singing on the show but this CD's going to give people a lot more feel for the finesse of my voice and how it can go from soft and pretty to just boisterous and powerful. I fell in love with Pavarotti and his music and his style of singing and I definitely bring it to this.

JB- Neal E. Boyd, season 3's America's Got Talent winner, thanks for joining us today. All the best to you.
NB- Thank you so much, sir.
JB- Take care.
NB- Bye.
